Supplying food and drink for the 2026 Winter Olympics leaves no margin for error. When suppliers supporting the event in Italy needed temporary cold storage for athletes and staff, they faced a familiar challenge: ensuring reliable, compliant food supply for a large-scale, time-bound operation without investing in permanent infrastructure.

Across Italy, TITAN’s ArcticStore solutions are widely used by customers in retail, catering, and industrial environments where flexible temperature-controlled storage is required. For the Winter Olympics, this flexibility was essential in supporting operations across Anterselva and Cortina, two key locations where reliable food supply was operationally critical throughout the event.

The challenge

Working alongside our Italian partner, Star Service, TITAN consulted with two suppliers responsible for providing food and beverages to Olympic staff and athletes.

Both suppliers required secure, temperature-controlled storage for chilled food and drinks throughout the event period. Any disruption to storage or supply during the event would have had immediate operational consequences for staff and athletes on site.

In addition, the Winter Olympics is a temporary, high-stakes event with a clearly defined timeframe. The suppliers needed a solution that could be deployed reliably in sub-zero conditions and removed once the event concluded, without the cost, time, or regulatory complexity associated with building fixed cold-room infrastructure for a temporary operation.

The solution

Based on the requirements, TITAN’s standard ArcticStore containers were well suited to the task. Capable of maintaining temperatures from –40°C to +45°C, they provided the flexibility needed to support different storage requirements across locations.

In total, three 20ft ArcticStore containers were delivered to Anterselva in the Antholz Valley, with one 20ft ArcticStore supplied to Cortina in the Dolomites.

The Anterselva supplier was an existing TITAN customer and required cold storage to support Olympic staff operations. The Cortina supplier, a new customer from Austria, engaged TITAN via the Vienna office to provide cold storage for athletes’ food and beverages.

Both solutions were tailored to the specific duration and operational needs of each supplier.

Delivery and installation

Transporting and positioning containers in alpine winter conditions required careful planning and coordination, particularly given the terrain, weather conditions, and tight event timelines.

Working closely with local partners and on-site teams, the ArcticStore units were delivered and installed in sub-zero temperatures and challenging terrain.

The containers were positioned precisely where needed, ensuring they were fully operational ahead of the opening ceremony.

The result

With reliable cold storage in place well in advance of the event, both suppliers were able to prepare stock confidently and reduce operational risk at a point where any disruption would have had immediate consequences.

TITAN’s flexible rental model allowed each customer to match storage capacity precisely to the Olympic timeframe, with rental periods ranging from 30 to 60 days and no requirement to commit to long-term infrastructure beyond the event.

This approach enabled the suppliers to focus on delivering consistent food and beverage operations throughout the Winter Olympics, while maintaining compliance and operational control in a demanding environment.

Supporting time-bound and complex operations

This project illustrates how temporary, flexible cold storage can support complex, time-critical operations where reliability, compliance, and environmental conditions leave no room for error.

From major international events to seasonal or short-term capacity needs, ArcticStore solutions provide a practical alternative to fixed infrastructure when customers require dependable temperature-controlled storage, exactly where and for as long as it is needed.
